My son's big toe nail separated from the nail bed except at the very base & won't grow back attached?

Not sure if it's due to a previous lack of cuticle, or a previous toenail injury, or a combination? He's always had ridgy crooked toenails on one foot- a pediatric dermatologist said it's because he has no cuticles %26amp; advised us to rub vaseline on them daily to help smooth them out. But about a month ago, he stubbed his toe, the nail turned black %26amp; separated from the nail bed except at the very base, so i cut it down to that point figuring it would grow back. Well, it's growing back, but growing still separated from the nailbed %26amp; because it's separated it starts to curve over into the top of his toe, so I have to cut it back down again. He basically has like a centimeter of a toenail now. Not sure if it's due to the previous injury, or to the lack of cuticle problem. Suggestions on how to get it to grow back ATTACHED to his toe as it should be?My son's big toe nail separated from the nail bed except at the very base %26amp; won't grow back attached?
Talk to the podiatrist, if you cut it too short it can turn into a ingrown toenail, and that will REALLY HURT!My son's big toe nail separated from the nail bed except at the very base %26amp; won't grow back attached?
I really think you need to see a doctor on that one.
