If nails grow from the the bed, how does the white tips form?

I ALWAYS WONDERED. like, how does the white part grow if like the nail grows from the opposite side. if that makes sense? If nails grow from the the bed, how does the white tips form?
when the nail detaches from the skin, it turns white.

so as the nail grows, and more nail leaves the skin, the more white that shows. If nails grow from the the bed, how does the white tips form?
that is a great question! i bet it will be at the top of the yahoo home thingy. :)

like someone said; when it grows past the skin, its only the nail, so it appears white.

when its growing against the skin, it looks pink, just like if you press ur finger against the white part it looks pink.
