KEEP YOUR FINGERS OUT...
well..I agree with the nail covers but i will say that you should probably be careful how much you tan. Not only will too much tanning make your skin like that of an alligator by the time your 40...it's ruining your nails.
take them off and do them over
1. Acrylic nails are tacky and they damage your real nails

2. Tanning beds are not good for your skin!!!
EZflow have a clear varnish that prevents yellowing caused by UV lights .. although if they are going that bad then it would suggest that you maybe need to get off lay off the tanning a little bit. :-)

Do you have long nail beds? Do people notice them?

I have long nail beds, yea. Whenever I have someone paint my nails, or i get a manicure the people always say something like 'oh nice nail beds!! They're so long!!!' But yeah thats it. haha. Okay well hope i helped.Do you have long nail beds? Do people notice them?
Yes, I do. People do notice especially when I get manicures.Do you have long nail beds? Do people notice them?
I have long nail beds too.

When I get manicures people are always like ';your nails are sooo pretty!'; because my natural nail looks like fake ones when I get french tips.
Yes I do, people do notice. It is a good thing because your nails can look long even when they are not.
I have long nail beds, too. Nail techs think they're great... I had an ex who thought they were gross.

You can always wear dark polish if you don't like them.

Why is there rashes and pale nail beds in people who have dengue? what is it's cause?

Here you go:

Dengue and dengue haemorrhagic fever

Dengue is a mosquito-borne infection which in recent years has become a major international public health concern. Dengue is found in tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world, predominantly in urban and semi-urban areas.

Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF), a potentially lethal complication, was first recognized in the 1950s during the dengue epidemics in the Philippines and Thailand, but today DHF affects most Asian countries and has become a leading cause of hospitalisation and death among children in several of them.

There are four distinct, but closely related, viruses that cause dengue. Recovery from infection by one provides lifelong immunity against that serotype but confers only partial and transient protection against subsequent infection by the other three. There is good evidence that sequential infection increases the risk of more serious disease resulting in DHF.

Prevalence

The global prevalence of dengue has grown dramatically in recent decades. The disease is now endemic in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, South-east Asia and the Western Pacific. South-east Asia and the Western Pacific are most seriously affected. Before 1970 only nine countries had experienced DHF epidemics, a number that had increased more than four-fold by 1995.

Some 2500 million people -- two fifths of the world's population -- are now at risk from dengue. WHO currently estimates there may be 50 million cases of dengue infection worldwide every year.

In 2001 alone, there were more than 609 000 reported cases of dengue in the Americas, of which 15 000 cases were DHF. This is greater than double the number of dengue cases which were recorded in the same region in 1995.

Not only is the number of cases increasing as the disease is spreading to new areas, but explosive outbreaks are occurring. In 2001, Brazil reported over 390 000 cases including more than 670 cases of DHF.

Some other statistics:

During epidemics of dengue, attack rates among susceptibles are often 40 -- 50%, but may reach 80 -- 90%.

An estimated 500 000 cases of DHF require hospitalisation each year, of whom a very large proportion are children. At least 2.5% of cases die, although case fatality could be twice as high.

Without proper treatment, DHF case fatality rates can exceed 20%. With modern intensive supportive therapy, such rates can be reduced to less than 1%.

The spread of dengue is attributed to expanding geographic distribution of the four dengue viruses and of their mosquito vectors, the most important of which is the predominantly urban species Aedes aegypti. A rapid rise in urban populations is bringing ever greater numbers of people into contact with this vector, especially in areas that are favourable for mosquito breeding, e.g. where household water storage is common and where solid waste disposal services are inadequate.

Transmission

Dengue viruses are transmitted to humans through the bites of infective female Aedes mosquitoes. Mosquitoes generally acquire the virus while feeding on the blood of an infected person. After virus incubation for 8-10 days, an infected mosquito is capable, during probing and blood feeding, of transmitting the virus, to susceptible individuals for the rest of its life. Infected female mosquitoes may also transmit the virus to their offspring by transovarial (via the eggs) transmission, but the role of this in sustaining transmission of virus to humans has not yet been delineated.

Humans are the main amplifying host of the virus, although studies have shown that in some parts of the world monkeys may become infected and perhaps serve as a source of virus for uninfected mosquitoes. The virus circulates in the blood of infected humans for two to seven days, at approximately the same time as they have fever; Aedes mosquitoes may acquire the virus when they feed on an individual during this period.

Characteristics

Dengue fever is a severe, flu-like illness that affects infants, young children and adults, but seldom causes death.

The clinical features of dengue fever vary according to the age of the patient. Infants and young children may have a non-specific febrile illness with rash. Older children and adults may have either a mild febrile syndrome or the classical incapacitating disease with abrupt onset and high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, and rash.

Dengue haemorrhagic fever is a potentially deadly complication that is characterized by high fever, haemorrhagic phenomena--often with enlargement of the liver--and in severe cases, circulatory failure. The illness commonly begins with a sudden rise in temperature accompanied by facial flush and other non-specific constitutional symptoms of dengue fever. The fever usually continues for two to seven days and can be as high as 40-41掳C, possibly with febrile convulsions and haemorrhagic phenomena.

In moderate DHF cases, all signs and symptoms abate after the fever subsides. In severe cases, the patient's condition may suddenly deteriorate after a few days of fever; the temperature drops, followed by signs of circulatory failure, and the patient may rapidly go into a critical state of shock and die within 12-24 hours, or quickly recover following appropriate volume replacement therapy.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment for dengue fever. However, careful clinical management by experienced physicians and nurses frequently saves the lives of DHF patients. With appropriate intensive supportive therapy, mortality may be reduced to less than 1%. Maintenance of the circulating fluid volume is the central feature of DHF case management.

Immunization

Vaccine development for dengue and DHF is difficult because any of four different viruses may cause disease, and because protection against only one or two dengue viruses could actually increase the risk of more serious disease. Nonetheless, progress is being made in the development of vaccines that may protect against all four dengue viruses. Such products may become available for public health use within several years.

Prevention and control

At present, the only method of controlling or preventing dengue and DHF is to combat the vector mosquitoes.

In Asia and the Americas, Aedes aegypti breeds primarily in man-made containers like earthenware jars, metal drums and concrete cisterns used for domestic water storage, as well as discarded plastic food containers, used automobile tyres and other items that collect rainwater. In Africa it also breeds extensively in natural habitats such as tree holes and leaf axils.

In recent years, Aedes albopictus, a secondary dengue vector in Asia, has become established in: the United States, several Latin American and Caribbean countries, in parts of Europe and in one African country. The rapid geographic spread of this species has been largely attributed to the international trade in used tyres.

Vector control is implemented using environmental management and chemical methods. Proper solid waste disposal and improved water storage practices, including covering containers to prevent access by egg laying female mosquitoes are among methods that are encouraged through community-based programmes.

The application of appropriate insecticides to larval habitats, particularly those which are considered useful by the householders, e.g. water storage vessels, prevent mosquito breeding for several weeks but must be re-applied periodically. Small, mosquito-eating fish and copepods (tiny crustaceans) have also been used with some success. During outbreaks, emergency control measures may also include the application of insecticides as space sprays to kill adult mosquitoes using portable or truck-mounted machines or even aircraft. However, the killing effect is only transient, variable in its effectiveness because the aerosol droplets may not penetrate indoors to microhabitats where adult mosquitoes are sequestered, and the procedure is costly and operationally very demanding. Regular monitoring of the vectors' susceptibility to the most widely used insecticides is necessary to ensure the appropriate choice of chemicals. Active monitoring and surveillance of the natural mosquito population should accompany control efforts in order to determine the impact of the programme.

  • White spots under nail beds what are they?

Either a lack of calcium in your diet or evidence of your banging or knocking nails months ago!White spots under nail beds what are they?
This is normally due to lack of calcium.

you can buy calcium tablets.White spots under nail beds what are they?
    its the tissue
If you have white spots on all you nails it's a sign of calcium deficiency if they appear on one or two of your nails it means that you have injured your nail the white spot will be a bruise on the nail bed which will grow out as your nail grows

your nails can tell alot about your diet and health
Either lack of calcium or you've bashed your nail
Every time you tell a lie, you get one of those little white spots... ha ha, that's what my mom used to tell me when I was little.

Seriously though.... while certain diseases and/or vitamin deficiencies can cause nail trouble, the most common cause for those little white spots is trauma to the nail bed. Haven't banged your finger lately? It probably happened three or four weeks ago. The injury most likely occured near the cuticle or a little further down the finger. You probably said ';Ow'; and maybe uttered a few curse words. Then you forgot about it. Little did you know that it had slightly damaged the nail that was growing. Several weeks later, you see the impact of a forgotten injury, manifested as a tiny white spot on your fingernail...

or maybe you've just been lying a lot lately!
    Zinc deficiency
The myth that has been around since I was a child, is that it is due to lack of calcium, or occasionally of some other mineral. Though white spots on the nails may indicate a number of disease processes, the commonest cause is trivial trauma to the nail bed.
Sal is right normally lack of calcium
    deficiency of zinc.

take more fruits and vegetables, your nail will become pink.
    a lack of calcium!!

Fingernails are pulling away from nail beds... why?

Recently over the last few months I have noticed that the white part of my fingernails is getting larger.... like I could cut them really short past my nail tip now. I have searched for answers but found none on the web.... any ideas why this is happening?Fingernails are pulling away from nail beds... why?

Why do fakirs sleep on a bed of nails without being hurt?

Don't know what a fakir is, but anyone can sleep on a bed of nails....The weight is distributed equally on each nail so you feel no pain, its nowhere near the sensation of sleeping on one nail (in which all your weight would be on one nail, resulting in an excruciating experience). Why do fakirs sleep on a bed of nails without being hurt?
Why they do it is to show that will can override ability. The question should be How.

I wear arcylic nails--how do I keep them from discoloring in the tanning bed?

There are all sorts of UV products do any of them keep discoloration from occuring???I wear arcylic nails--how do I keep them from discoloring in the tanning bed?
Acrylic nails should not yellow, not if they are made from top quality acrylics. If they do are yellow, it is most often due to a product which you are using, like nail polishes, and will only stain the very top of the nail, not the entire way through the nail. Suntanning accelerators, and lotions, cremes, etc., can also stain the surface of your nails. Just be sure to wash your hands good after using any of these products - before tanning, if possible. Always use a basecoat when using polish on acrylic nails. This will help to prevent staining, and it will make the polish last longer by giving it something to adhere to. A gentle buffing should remove surface stains. The reason this happens is that acrylic nails are porous, and thus, products such as nail polish - especially darker shades, can easily penetrate the surface

If they are stained all the way through the nail, then chances are that you have gotten either poor quality acrylic applied to your nails, or acrylic which contains a substance called MMA(cheap, and will ruin your nails, and possibly be harmful to your health as well. This is not for use on nails, and it is illegal to use on nails in many states. This is not for use on nails, ever. But its really cheap to buy, so lots of discount salons use it anyway). These will yellow all the way through. Always make sure you go to a reputable salon which uses nothing but top quality products. The containers which hold the liquid and powders should be clearly labeled. If they are not, then this is usually a sign that it is not a good quality product. Always ask which acrylic product line they are using. If the containers are unmarked, as is usually the case at discount salons, then don't be afraid to ask them to show you the original containers. If they have nothing to hide, then they should not have a problem with this sort of request. Look for names on the containers such as Creative Nail Design, Tammy Taylor, Entity Beauty, Young Nails, and there are a few more good ones too.

One way to avoid yellow nails altogether is to get gel nails. Be certain that you are getting real gel nails. Gel nails uses nothing but gels, they have the consistency of a hair styling gel, and come in various colors, most commonly clear, white, and numerous shades of pink, though there are also lots of other colors available now as well. Gel nails do NOT contain any liquid and powder. If the tech is applying any L %26amp; P, then you are getting acrylic nails, not gel nails. It happens all the time, beware of this. And there is no such thing as ';powder gel'; either, though some scammers will refer to their 'gel' as being this. Gel is gel, not powder. Period.

About Solar nails: They are regular acrylics. They are not some new type of nail, or nail product. Don't be fooled into thinking that they are not acrylic, because they are though lots of discount salons are marketing them as some sort of new nail product. This is false. The term is a play on words, and typically refers to Pink %26amp; White nails (Permanent French). Thus, the price should never be any higher than it is for P%26amp;W's, because thats what they are! SoarNail is an acrylic product line that is made by Creative Nail Design. It was first introduced back in the later 1970's, and is still used today, though not very often because the acrylic industry has changed and improved for the better over the years so that much better acrylic products are now being used. But, CND remains to be one of the top nail companies in existence because they have kept up with all the changes, and this is reflected in their current nail product offerings including acrylics, gels and many more nail care products. Just a bit of info for ya!I wear arcylic nails--how do I keep them from discoloring in the tanning bed?
If it's doing that to your nails imagine what its doing to your body as you regularly do this. From a guys point of view, the fake baked girls don't look good and everybody knows that its fake. You can also tell the women in their thirties who have been doing this for a long time look so much older and their skin is nasty. Do you want to be one of those women with wrinkly cleavage? A healthy glow from a LITTLE sun exposure looks so much better.
You could use a darker polish, or if you like French tips you could switch from acrylic to gel (they don't really discolor). Or you could put cotton around your fingertips before you get in, or even maybe douse them in SPF 50.
Oh gross. Tanning and acrylic nails. Make sure your polish doesn't have any formaldehyde in it. This is what causes the yellwing.
Try solar nails instead. They're similar to acryllic, and cost slightly more, but they don't turn yellow when you tan.
there are caps you can wear on your nails made special for arcyic nails

if not all i can think of is cover up the tips with lotion or towels
if you go to a good tanning place they have nail covers you can buy/use. Ask them next time you go in there!
don't go fake baking...it is really bad for your skin and nails
well your fake..ha ha fake nails and fake tan ha
put something over them when u tan
Try having a gel set put on next time you have your nails done. They last longer and won't discolor like acrylic nails. I have had this problem before too.

i heard it turns them yellow...help please. How do i keep my acrylic frenchtips (nails) from turning yellow in the tanning bed? or is that just a myth?
never heard of that. tanning beds are the same as tanning outside, and so i havnt had yellow nails yet. you should call the tanning salon and ask themHow do i keep my acrylic frenchtips (nails) from turning yellow in the tanning bed? or is that just a myth?
They probably sell these little things you can put over your finger at the tanning bed, so check and see.

A couple times wont hurt your nails but yes, after a while they turn yellow and icky.
Yes it is true. I just had to get my nails re-done yesterday because they were so yellow. I'm going to go buy a top coat with UV protector in it. They didn't have any at my nail salon!
I've heard that, too. Get a top coat specifically designed to stop yellowing. Sally's Beauty Supply in our area sells a good one.

Help me! please. my wonderful darling 3 year old son has got nail varnish (polish) whatever, all over my bed-?

    cover.

i have absolutely no idea how to get this out, does anyone know the best way?

nail varnish remover doesnt work, neither does bleach!!

can anyone help me please?Help me! please. my wonderful darling 3 year old son has got nail varnish (polish) whatever, all over my bed-?
Go to a beauty supply place and get some acetone. Put a bit of acetone on a cotton ball and dab gently on the nail polish until it is gone, If your kid got it on a blanket, pretreat the area with laundry pretreater and launder as normal. If you kid the polish on the frame of your bed, whether it be wood or metal, you may want to test the acetone on an inconspicuous spot. If the acetone doesn't take up the polish or grain on the wood or the finish on the metal, then proceed to removing the polish, then clean your frame according to whatever your bed frame is made of. Good luck.Help me! please. my wonderful darling 3 year old son has got nail varnish (polish) whatever, all over my bed-?
    use kerosene
I think washing in Petrol works. But doing this at home is dangerous. So give it to for Drycleaning and instruct them to wash in petrol only.
I'm thinking that kerosene works, but I'm not too sure. Best way is to send it to the laundry shop...
try with a little white spirit or turps then straight to the wash
Time for a new one. There are some things you just can't fix.
Considering you mainly want to rid the sheet stains buy one gallon of Krud Kutter (Sold at Lowe's %26amp; Wal-Mart) and add to the wash. Don't worry, Krud Kutter is 100% safe on fabrics and is biodegradable and contains no bleach. If on the bed itself, use Krud Kutter and a towel and vigoursly wipe the bed untill the polish removes. Always test on a inconspious area first.

  • Bluish tint to nail beds?

I am 26-27 weeks pregnant and I just noticed today the half moon area on my fingernails have a bluish tint to them? Is this anything to do with pregnancy, and is this anything I should be concerned about? I don't go back to the dr. until the first.Bluish tint to nail beds?
I have the same thing happen to me at the moment. Im 27 weeks and 3 days, and some days I have a really blueish tint to my nail bed. Others not so much. Ive been told its an indicator of the amount of oxygen in your blood. Ive had health problem since I was born, and my doctors always check the colour of my nails if Im unwell, or really tired. Im going on the 7th to ask my doctor about it, because it can indicate anemia in the body, which you will be treated with more iron in your diet. Don't worry too much about it. are you getting more tired lately? I know I am, so it could be iron intake needs to be increased. Congratulations, and I hope it isn't anything too serious.Bluish tint to nail beds?
A blueish tinge to your fingernails can have to do with poor circulation to that area or maybe anaemia. Press down on your fingertips and they should go white, see how quicly they turn pink again - this is called your capillary refil and if it takes a while for them to turn pink again it has can be an indicator of poor blood circulation.

Maybe mention it to your doctor or whoever is your lead carer for your pregnancy.
Hmm. your nails may be thinning so you can see the blood flow a bit better--that would look blue. Try pressing on one of your nails--does the same area turn red? If so, that's a good sign and the only thing that I would know to look for--turning red means you are not anemic. However, if you press down and you don't see any color change, check the inside of your eyelids. They should be bright red. If they aren't, let your doctor know that you may have anemia and they will do a quick blood test.
Your doctor has a 24 line call them and ask because it just sounds like you might lose your nail or you have poor circulation? I don't know but I don't want to scare you. But call your doctor and find out what he thinks?
    check out link
A bluish tint to the nails is usually indicitive of poor circulation.

I would call your ob/gyn nurse tomorrow and ask about this. Better safe than sorry.
I have all ways heard that if your nails lips and things like that start to turn blue it is because your not getting enough oxygen. I would call the doctor or go in.
I don't know, but I don't think that's normal. I think you might want to tell your doctor about this.
something is up with your blood, call your doctor and ask them.
weird does not sound normal are you sure you have not touched or ate anything that would stain your skin?
i have never heard that before... my nails grew really quick but they werent blue...

Why is there rashes and pale nail beds in people who have dengue? what is it's cause?

The rashes you see is medically known as petechiae. This is caused by the decreased levels of Platelet..a blood component that is responsible for the coagulation of blood. Patients with dengue are so prone to bleeding. The same rationale goes with having a pale nail beds. But one of the significant signs of having dengue is the rashes.Hope this helps. My cuticles/nail beds are swollen, torn, and cracked, what could this be?

My nailbeds are huge, and make my fingers look ugly. Anyway, I thought I just had bad cuticles until tonight when my mom suggested I might have a fungal infection. My nails are fine, but they can be a little brittle. What could this be? And how do I treat it?My cuticles/nail beds are swollen, torn, and cracked, what could this be?
~ Drink OOOooodles of water... pee a lot... more water...etc. those nails cry of not being 'watered' enough.

~ When I don't drink enough, my skin around my fingernails crack... sometimes bleed... pain... the comes the Super glue on the cracks to allow healing while I get busy with the water intake... after 3 or so days on water replenishment, the Super glue wears off, and I'm ok again.

~ Yes, you may have to see your dermatologist for further diagnosis/prognosis... but try the water first.

~ Virgin Coconut Oil is also very helpful... I use it for almost everything... love that stuff... if smells great too... and they say it tasts good also (good for internal organs, etc)... but I'm not brave enough to try that yet.

~ Best wishes for a speedy nail-covery (recovery)... heheheMy cuticles/nail beds are swollen, torn, and cracked, what could this be?
I would see your doctor. It sounds like it may be a fungal infection... mom might be right! If they are brittle and your cuticles swollen it sounds like it is some sort of infection. But only a doctor can diagnose this. You can try over the counter meds such as anti fungal creams just to see if it helps. It could be just really dry skin too, Vitamin E liquid (usually found in health food stores) can help with that. If it is helping with the vit E then I would drink more water and eat more foods high in vitamins... A vitamin deficiency can also be the culprit. It is common to have nail and hair issues when someone is Vitamin deficient. You can pick up multi vitamins anywhere. So, choose what you want, but I would try to see a doctor first and see what he/she says. Good luck!
I highly doubt you have a fungal infection. Unless your actual nail bed is discolored or starting to become misshapen, it's most likely that you simply have dry nails. In the past, I always recommended a NATURAL oil to my clients - most lotions won't help, as they mostly contain mineral oil, which isn't absorbed by your body. Use a great cuticle oil like Creative's Solar Oil, OPI's Avoplex, or even plain almond oil from a health food store - some of my clients have actually used olive oil from their pantry and said it works great. For best results, use that oil twice a day - once in the morning, once in the evening, and stay away from products containing high volumes of alcohol (like hand sanitizers). When you wash your hands, try to use a heavy hand cream afterward.

Above all, remember that your nail bed must grow out to notice any permanent improvement. Whatever damage is done to your nails by dehydration will have to grow out. The oil will help keep it flexible in the meanwhile.
drying out probably use lotion and soak your hands in the tub if you take a bath.
This may be caused by dehydration in your body. Try drinking more water, and eating healthier, and you will see a huge improvement. Also try buying Cuticle oil. They help keep your cuticles growing, and will stop them from cracking, and drying up.

I get splinter like flecks in my nail beds from time to time, what are they?

It's a 'splinter haemorrhage' I get them too. When they grow up to the top of the nail you can pick them out as if it was a splinter! There is no need for you to worry about them. You may have one or two 'splinters' and never have another one. It all depends on how the matrix develops the nail plate cells. If they are not tightly bonded together, blood from the nail bed will fill the void and it will look like a splinter - sometimes it will look like a dot.I get splinter like flecks in my nail beds from time to time, what are they?
Cheeks is right...unfortunately damage to the nail bed is permanent, however that does not mean you will always have these splinter like flecks what it does mean though is that you will eventually get lengthwise ridges down the nail or nails.

Try not to worry lots of products that can camouflage these ridges if they become too unsightly for you.I get splinter like flecks in my nail beds from time to time, what are they?
I believe they're calcium spots caused by ';too much'; calcium in the diet. It's healthier to have them than not have them.
I get those too. it looks weird, like a splinter under my fingernails. weird
They are damage to the nail bed, you may have banged your nail with out realising as the nail bed is quite sensetive. The white spots someone also reffered to are another form of bruising to the nail and are not to do with calcium at all as many people believe.
If you mean the small blact bits, i think they are hairs. i get then occasionally, they grow our eventually, but can be painfull.

Why have my nail beds turned pale?

about a year ago i noticed that my nails had turned pale out of nowhere. I thought that it would eventually go away on its own but it didn't. I then decided to get a blood test to see if i had been anemic or if i had some kind of deficiency but nothing came up my dr. said that my iron levels were fine and that my circulation was normal. my nails almost look white and it is becoming annoying because it is noticeable and people always ask. if anyone has ever experienced this or has any feedback please let me know. thank youWhy have my nail beds turned pale?

Maybe you should eat some healthy food and maybe exercise a little.
well if you have been to the doctor and he can't find anything wrong it is ok to get a second opinion from another doctor.I guess in the meantime just paint your nails a natural looking color or go crazy with color.

My daughter's nail have dark nail beds and have dark lines, what disease might she have?or missing vitamins?

usually when someone has dark nailbeds it means that their is usually a fungal infection lurking beneath the nail. That happened to me too, but on my toe nails, and to my little niece(two of her finger nails). My sister put cortizone on her daughter's nails, that helped, plus the doctor prescribed medicine that made it go away. Me on the other hand, have to suffer with it because medicine for my toe fungal infection is considered cosmetic and is very expensive. Quick solution: never wear flip flops in public!!

HELP!!! my ferret has got his nail's caught on a bed that they have in the cage i don't know how long he was stuck for.. but when i notice he was dehydrated and very skinny and he couldn't walk [back legs didn't move that much] so its been 2 weeks... i fed him and gave him plenty of water everyday..but he hasn't got any better or worse ...HELP WHAT SHOULD I DO??HELP!!! my ferret has got his nail's caught on a bed that they got and now hes very skinny..READ?
    He needs a vet, NOW.

In the mean time, get some Stage 2 Gerber baby food - chicken, turkey or veal - and thin it with a lil water. Feed it to him several times a day. This will boost his energy and put some weight back on him.

Make sure he eats and drinks and keep an eye on his poo - the size and texture of it. And how often he poos.

Ferret poo tells you a lot about their general health. The fact that you dont know this worries me.

AlaskanFerret brings up a good point. Your ferret's leg could be broken. He needs treatment. If you dont know how long your ferret was stuck for, then he clearly isnt getting enough time out of the cage and attention.

If you cant or wont bring him to a vet, then you need to give him up to a shelter that handles ferrets. If his leg is broken, he will lose the leg or even die.

....3 days?! You NEVER leave a ferret ALONE for 3 days!! This is a prime example of WHY.... never mind the fact that they could break their teeth while attacking the bars of their cage in an attempt to get out. Or strangle themselves while trying to break free from a cheap cage. *rubs her forehead* Get him to a vet. NOW.

And you might love him, but you clearly dont know enough about ferrets. Either increase your knowledge about them as a whole, or give him to some one who already knows.

Er..... no. Ferrets are obligate carnivores. They dont have the organ needed to digest fruits, grains and veggies. You want just turkey, chicken or veal with gravy.

One jar wont hurt him, but if you have any more, return them and get him the straight meat ones.

I'll repeat. NO FRUITS, GRAINS OR VEGGIES. Rice is a grain. Corn is a grain and should NEVER be given to ferrets.

Just..... do me a favor and invest in Ferrets for Dummies, 2nd edition. Any GOOD ferret owner owns that book. Its THE book on ferrets. I'm sorry, but you need it.HELP!!! my ferret has got his nail's caught on a bed that they got and now hes very skinny..READ?
Why the hell did you buy him turkey and veggies?? NO chicken and rice is not good!

ONLY feed 100% MEAT baby food. Nothing with veggies. Has he been stuck on his bed for 2 weeks and you never noticed?! How irresponsible! You cannot leave a ferret without anything and alone for 3 days in its cage!

Did you go to the vet yet? You're starving him! I cannot believe you are waiting 2 weeks to get help!

You should not have a pet.
Get him to a vet right away.

He could die without proper assistance.
get a vet really really soon like now!hes gonna die if u dont!

you can try a wood cleaner i think its called old Fashion or something like that its really dark brown wood cleaner should be able to find it at grocery store or hardware store if that don't work then you will have to sand it but you will have to sand the whole thing because if you try to stain that one spot it will look different than the rest if you can match the color right you might not have to sand whole thing but with age and use or if you smoke the wood changes to un natural colors so it might be hard to matchI put nail polish remover on my bed post (picture)?
you will have to sand it down and restain it. You might want to figure what stain color it is. Good Luck...also tell your mom...she might be able to help.
i dont think there is really anything youcan do about it.the polish remover has alcohol in it and other chemicals...sorry : (

    nails, accupressure
Maggots. They're gross, but they are unlikely to bite you - you're not dead yet.

    The nails WILL ';bite'; you.

What made you think of this awful choice?
    nails!! maggots are so GROSS!
Give me the nails. The nails aren't going to slither around while I'm trying to sleep, and I won't wake up with a nail crawling into an ear or nose.

And besides, like someone else said, maggots are just gross.
    Nails; I don't like maggots.

Are silk nails healthier for your nail beds than acrylic (glue)?

I always see the option for silk and sometimes solar nails at my local salon, but am not sure what these things are and if they are easier on the natural nails than the glue-based acrylic. Are silk nails healthier for your nail beds than acrylic (glue)?
Silk wraps are not as durable as acrylic overlays. The nail enhancements (i.e., acrylic, wraps, gels) are not was causes the damage to your nails. It's the nail tech. If you go to a reputable salon with a licensed nail tech that does quality work then the damage to your natural nails will be minimal. Are silk nails healthier for your nail beds than acrylic (glue)?
SIlk nails are glue based. Acrlics are not. I'm not quite sure how, or why you think they are, but they aren't. SIlk nails aren't very durable, and I really don't recommend them to people. And no, acrylics will not damage your nails as long as you go to a good tech, at a good, reputable salon. If you had bad experiences before, try going to a mid-to-high end salon. Not all of them are good, but I provided links for you to help eliminate some of the guesswork in choosing a good salon. You will pay more, but you won't feel rushed, or feel like you are part of an assembly line process. The cheap salons are just like that though. I can tell that you are going to a discount salon because you mentioned Solar Nails. Discount salons are really the only places that offer these, and they are not some new product, or something special though many people think they are. In case you already don't know it, Solar Nails ARE acrylic nails. Its the same exact acrylic products used on your nails. The term solar nail refers to whats otherwise called Pink %26amp; Whites, or Permanent French in the vast majority of salons owned and operated by Americans. The discount salons are not the places to go for nail services. They want you out that door as quickly as they can possibly get you out of there, and they use the absolut cheapest acrylic products that they can buy, hence the low prices. Plus, they will use a drill and ruin your nails more often than not. In a good salon, it will take about one and a half hours for a full set. And they will not rush you. Instead, you should feel relaxed, and pampered at the same time. For a list of salons all across the U.S., have a look at either of these two links. The first ons is from CND, who is the largest, and oldest nail product company in the world. They manufacture top of the line acrylic and gel products for prodessionals as well as a complete line of skin and nail products for the consumer. The techs that you will find on their salon locator have ALL been company trained in the use of their products, and company certified prior to their being listed on this page. Just find one in your area, and click on it, and a window will open up which will give you very detailed information about that particular tech/salon.

The second link is very good also, and its from a very reputable source. You cannot go wrong with either of them.

    I hope this helps!!!

yes, a silk overlay is much better than acrylic, while it is better to stay away from both, silk overlay will make your nails stronger and will not damage the nail bed. I personally have silk overlay, but you must keep them done!!! hope my answer helped, be blessed!

How can i make my nail beds be longer and my nails thicker!?

I use Sally Hansen's nail polish. It's nail polish with vitamin E which will make your nails grow. They have nail colors with vitamin E or if you want your nails bare there is clear polish with vitamin E. You apply the clear nail polish once for 5 days. It'll eventually show progress. And for colored nail polish i would put to colored on first, then put the clear on over for 5 days just like if you had bare finger nails. Or you could just get the growth treatment from Sally Hansen. Here's the website. You can look around!

http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/3220/507100My gel nails turn yellow in tanning bed, what can i do to prevent this?
don't use tanning beds; they'll ruin your skin
tanning beds cause that. there's not much you can do unless you want to put tape over your nails while you're in the bed or some thing. that's an issue many women struggle with. although i'm sure you'll get bombarded with women and men saying don't tan don't tan you'll get cancer.
    don't wear them.

Um...take the nails off, I dont know why it does that, it just does, and you cant prevent it...so.
Solar nails will not do that.

  • Does anyone have any ideas for making a headboard for my hollywood bed without using a hammer and nails or san

I live in a small housing apartment and can,t have anything thats permanent attached to the walls, but I need a way to make a headboard for my bed that is easy to construct. I,m 65, so it has to be simple and inexpensive.Does anyone have any ideas for making a headboard for my hollywood bed without using a hammer and nails or san
You can try buying some plywood cut to size for you. Then hot glue some batting and fabric to it. Most fabric stores will sell the batting (it is like pillow stuffing and comes in rolls with varied thicknesses). This way you only need a hot glue gun and maybe a staple gun too.

You can change the fabric and get a whole new look to your Hollywood-style ;)

good luck!Does anyone have any ideas for making a headboard for my hollywood bed without using a hammer and nails or san
I would suggest going to a second-hand furniture store or a charity thrift store. They often have used headboards for sale.
Thumb tacks OK? Fabric on the wall, perhaps poofed out with quit fiber fill bats. Put a decroative ribbon around and thumb tacks. Actually you'd probably need to stable the fiberfill bats to the wall...so hope it's drywall, not plaster. Or you could hand some fabric from a rod......it would weigh less than a picture and frame!
I hung a very pretty quilt above my bed on a curtain rod.

3 cup hooks hold it up. Looks very nice.

Nail beds turn purple (slightly blue) from shower?

This started this week, what could be causing it?Nail beds turn purple (slightly blue) from shower?
I thought when that happened it meant that you werent getting enough oxygen... Usually when that happens your lips or parts of your face will turn blue-ish.. But other than that i don't really know..Nail beds turn purple (slightly blue) from shower?
Usually when you nail beds go blue you have bad capillary refill (blood being circulated from viens to lungs). I am an EMT and we use this in order to get a read on a persons oxygenation of the blood or circulation. I assume you are a white female (by your question). Usually in people with color it is hard to tell because of skin pigment. The other thing is i have scene over the years is females have a much lower blood pressure then men (thats cause men have to deal with women) thats a joke. My thinking is when you are in a shower that you are to cold your body naturally constricts its veinuls (veins) to increase blood flow to the heart there for removing blood from the extremities (hands, feet) . Its a simple reaction and i think you might have an over-reacting feeling on this.
is may be a sign you dont get blood to the fingernails.

What temp is the shower set to?

    thats all i got
is it because you're spending too much time in the shower, or you're feet/hands are too cold or too hot?

Nail polish all over bed spread!?

dont have a lot of time to explain but the bottom line is i got clear nail polish on my bed spread and not just a little A LOT. dose anyone know how i can get it out before my mom gets home? its pretty dry nowNail polish all over bed spread!?
First depending on the material, wet it, and use, acitone nail polish remover, if not put on oxy-clean and stick it in the washer. And if that doesn't get the sticky out (if it's like fur) use and old comb or tooth pick to get some out.

my dog has a black crust thats around her nail bed and it is dry and sticks to her nail. it seems to cause her discomfort because she licks and bites at it. should i clean it with anything? is this normal?? its not like mud either. thanks!Dog has black crust in and around nail beds. looks wet underneath the blackness. ?
You should take this dog to the vet. No it's not normal. It sounds like she may have a fungal infection that needs medication.Dog has black crust in and around nail beds. looks wet underneath the blackness. ?
It sounds like a fungal infection. She should see a vet,but if you can't or won't take her to the vet,you can do this :

Go to the drugstore and get a bottle of povidone-iodine solution and a can of Micatin Athlete's foot spray.Wash the dog's feet with the povidone and warm water ( soak them for 5-10 minutes if you can.) Rinse and dry thoroughly, then spray the Micatin on the feet and nails, making sure to get into every crevice. You can use the cream or ointment if you want,or even use Miconazole cream for vaginal yeast infections. It will not hurt the dog if she licks it off,but try to discourage her so that the medicine can work.Keep doing this for at least three weeks and it should clear up.If it doesn't she may need an oral anti-fungal,which requires a trip to the vet.

If nails grow from the the bed, how does the white tips form?

I ALWAYS WONDERED. like, how does the white part grow if like the nail grows from the opposite side. if that makes sense? If nails grow from the the bed, how does the white tips form?
when the nail detaches from the skin, it turns white.

so as the nail grows, and more nail leaves the skin, the more white that shows. If nails grow from the the bed, how does the white tips form?
that is a great question! i bet it will be at the top of the yahoo home thingy. :)

like someone said; when it grows past the skin, its only the nail, so it appears white.

when its growing against the skin, it looks pink, just like if you press ur finger against the white part it looks pink.

What could cause fingers to tingle(all 10), numb and nail beds to whiten?

Sometimes my fingers on one hand or both tingle get numb and the middle of the nail bed go very lite pink or white. I also get splinter heamorraghes -they look like splinters but deep and grow out. It's not carpal tunnel. My right eye (not the eyelid) twitches almost constantly, so much now that I have become used to it and only notice when its not twitching. I work as a phelobotmist and this affects my day! It doesn't happen every day, sometimes more when it is very cold out but many times I get cold and no one around me is and then my fingers start up. Any advice is valuable. I've checked around and nothing seems to fit my sypmtoms. What could cause fingers to tingle(all 10), numb and nail beds to whiten?
I REALLY HOPE NOT...BUT THAT IS A SYMPTOM OF POISONING, LOOK UP SYMPTOMS OF ARSENIC POISONING, THEY ARE WHITE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NAIL BEDS, AND NUMBNESS OF THE FINGERS AND HANDS AND TINGLING. I AM SERIOUS, CHECK IT OUT, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, BUT YOU COULD BE POISONED BY MANY WAYS INCLUDING A PERSON! OTHERWISE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT CARPEL TUNNEL AND FIBROMIALGA, JUST BECAUSE EVERY SYMPTOM DOESN'T MATCH DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING, EVERY PERSON IS UNIQUE AND SO ARE SYMPTOMS SOMETIMES. GOOD LUCK, AND GET IT CHECKED SOON!!What could cause fingers to tingle(all 10), numb and nail beds to whiten?
You might call your doctor and explain all of this to him. If he doesn't have an answer, maybe he can refer you to a doctor of neurological diseases.
I had that happen, and the doctors thought that it might be a blood clot. Turns out it wasn't, but you might want to think about getting an untrasound. Above all, call your doc. He can ease your worries, and get you set up on the right track.

i dont know about black magic but someone put nail in my bed 3 times i dont know y the person want to harm me i have a family a boy a girl %26amp; my hubby i want to live happy life how can i save my home from that type of magics i dont want to learn any magic but i want to solve my problem pl somebody help me i feel bad these days i have small kids pl somebody help me %26amp; tell me how can i contact to mr singhPl help me someone put the nail in my bed 3 times i dont know ? is the purpose how can i protect my self pl h?
If I were you I'd start to watch your husband very carefully. Something is wrong here, and it isn't likely to be attempted magic (at least from outside your home) and it isn't very likely to be your kids. If your home is secure (no break-ins) then you've got a worse problem than magic. Don't be accusing your husband ... just leave (and don't tell him where you're going).Pl help me someone put the nail in my bed 3 times i dont know ? is the purpose how can i protect my self pl h?
There is such a thing as Black Magic. Get a priest in there and get it cleansed. Start praying at night for protection, and put crosses up,and if it makes you feel better, sleep with a bible, put bibles and crosses in your children's room, and your room. Good Luck.
There is no such thing as magic. I would be more worried about protecting myself from tetanus from the nail.
    Magic isn't real.

I got a piece of wood stuck under my big toe nail. it is wedged under my toe bed and hurts really bad.?

it is a very tiny peice and i washed it out really good i have been picking at it with a sterilized needle trying to get it out so it wont get infected. my question is if i leave it in there because i cant get it out and rinse it with peroxide twice a day will i be fine? because i dont have health insurance and cant go to the doctor otherwise i would just do that.I got a piece of wood stuck under my big toe nail. it is wedged under my toe bed and hurts really bad.?
can you use tweezers to get at it, or have a friend do it for you. I would think in order for it to heal properly it is going to have to come out! Ouch!I got a piece of wood stuck under my big toe nail. it is wedged under my toe bed and hurts really bad.?
It will probibly be fine. But it might get an infection if it gets stuck. Otherwise your body will probibly flush it out eventually.
go to the doctor if you cant get it, out cause you can get an infection,

Is laying on a bed of nails a trick?

Ive seen strong men do it and even criss angel and i would like to know if its a trick and if any one can do it.Is laying on a bed of nails a trick?
It's not a trick. Anybody can do it granted you know enough about math. It's just a matter of laying on enough nails. If there are too little amount of nails, you'll be shish-kabobed!

The more nails there are the more of a persons weight is distributed.

If there is only one nail, all of your weight is on that one nail. If you destribute your weight out to like 100,000 nails...you'll barely feel a thing.

    It's all about weight distribution!

Teo nail ripped from bed, seems infected?

alright, I'm a 15 year old girl, and I was in the middle of moving, on saterday as I was lifting a box my toenail was somehow snagged and sligthly ripped from its bed. (mostly on one side)

its still attached, but it bled a little bit (and hurt like heck) I didn't have internet untill JUST now and we simple had no time to go to the doctor cause my mom is sick and my dad was busy moving boxes back and forth.

I knew that if I tape the nail down it should reattach but it wasn't getting much air because of the way I used the band aids, I went online today and haven't found many info on MY specific problem.

so, it SEEMS infected, It uh, smells bad and theres a little bit of puss on the side that is more unattached. and some dried blood just under my toenail.. its ';airing out'; right now (which is making it itchy).... and I need help knowing what to do next

plleaase, I can't go to the doctor till tomorrow so tell me how to make this better and avoid removing a nail.Teo nail ripped from bed, seems infected?
fill a bucket with warm water and add salt and clean your toe in the solution. This will help clean away the infection. The toe nail wont reconnect itself by the way unless it is the root were talking about, but will grow back hopefully.

Im not a doctor, but washing it in a saline solution will help cleaning it.Teo nail ripped from bed, seems infected?
Ehhh, that sounds bad (and makes me sort of sick). I know you probably don't want to, but clean it with something. You don't have to use hydrogen peroxide, but it would probably work best. The dried blood is probably not a big deal, because thats normal. It sounds pretty infected... There's not much to do though, sorry.

    Good luck

Does it mean anything if the color of your nail beds turn color within a matter of hours.?

their like greyish bight blue color. She gets sick once every time this year from her Hay fever. She said she never noticed this before though. She kept her hands clean and she wasent wearing nail polish.Does it mean anything if the color of your nail beds turn color within a matter of hours.?
Generally grayish blue implies a lack of circulation to those extremities. So another wards she may have poor circulation and it is evidenced by the graish blue coloring under the nail beds. Also lips will turn blueish gray and inside of cheeks as well when you are lacking oxygen!Does it mean anything if the color of your nail beds turn color within a matter of hours.?
maybe poor circulation to the fingers
Well she could have poor circulation... are her lips a bit blue too? If they are that could be oxygen deprivation.
if her nail beds are turning blue she is not getting enough oxygen
i bet nail fungus...tell her to go to the doctor to check it out
If her nail beds are turning a bluish color it could be a sign of her body not receiving enough oxygen.

As impressive it is to see someone lay on a bed of nails, would it be more impressive if they laid on one nail

Sure it would; the bed of nails trick is simple and not really that dangerous, because the nails are spaced close enough together that you can distribute your body weight across them without fear -- if you have a bed of 300 nails and you weigh 150 pounds, then each nail only supports a half pound of your weight (it's a little more complex than that, but you get my meaning) However, suspending yourself on one nail is physically impossible; if you consider the surface area at the tip of a nail (let's say, for mathematical simplicity, that it's 1/100th of a square inch in area), your 150 pounds will press down on that nail with 15,000 psi, and you'll impale yourself with it.As impressive it is to see someone lay on a bed of nails, would it be more impressive if they laid on one nail
Yes, I've actually seen it being done in a street bazaar in Madras.

The nail was a single, vicious-looking spike about 9'; long. The fakir cleverly pretended it had mortally pierced his aorta, bled to death, and was cremated shortly afterwards, to scattered applause from the crowd.

When I left, they were still waiting for him to come back.

Eat your heart out, David Copperfield...oh, wait, you've already done that. Probably. As impressive it is to see someone lay on a bed of nails, would it be more impressive if they laid on one nail
I'd be even more impressed if they actually laid a nail.

    That would be worth seeing.
    LMAO...you've got a point there!
I want to see someone really brave go to the shooting gallery down the block and lay on a bed of used needles.
You should stop joking about nails. Christ was nailed to the cross and you shouldn't talk like that.
absolutley. The more nails the easier it is because it distributes the weight evenly to all of the nails, thus no punture. One nail... well, that's a sure trip to a tetnis shot.
try it yourself and tell me

Why do my nail beds hurt after i get gel nails done?

THis is the second time i've gotten them done and they hurt....what's the deal? Why do my nail beds hurt after i get gel nails done?
Your nail beds hurt bc they ';grind'; down your natural nail in order to make the gel nail stick. It's stripping away fine layers of your nail which is why it hurts. If you still want to get the gels, then try taking an Advil before you go. This pain is often called a ';nail headache';.Why do my nail beds hurt after i get gel nails done?
I think its because they use that electric filer on the nail bed which is not natural and that destroys the nail bed. Also have you ever noticed people in those stores are wearing masks? Did you ever think that those ingrediants put on your nails are actually harmful to your health? They are and most salons use cheap ingrediants. I read about it on the web because it would make me feel horrible after getting my nails done.
THEY ARE NOT NATURAL ! therefore cannot possibly be good for you nails- you are stripping away at your real nails with chemical....
because when you put a chemical onto your nail it sorta weakens the nail and after it has been on there for a while it starts to put the nail through a crucial period where the nail does not have air to help the natural growth and cause the pain that you are feeling
Your natural nails might be rejecting them, kinda like an allergic reaction. Your nail tech. might have filed your natural nails just a lil bit too much. If you had tips applied, they might be a lil snug and the glue holds them tightly in place. So they are squeezing your nails, kinda like fitting in tight pants. You feel uncomfortable. Hope something helps you out.

my granddaughter is5 and she is now pulling on her eyelashes, wetting the bed andnail biting. she never did this beforeChild bed wetting, nail biting, eyelash pulling?
Starting school or changing classes/teachers can be a really stressful time for a child, and this can cause any/all of these problems. There are of course more serious causes, but start with the obvious, and ask her if something is bothering her.

If this persists over the next few months, take her to a sympathetic doctor.Child bed wetting, nail biting, eyelash pulling?
Plz give her all your love and understanding! She surely won麓t so it on purpose and needs your help and advice. I also wet very often (I am 13) and my parents are so cool and helpful.

What change has she recently been thru to start this behavior%26gt;? Has anyone NEW been around her
Could be stress, anxiety, or fear of a new situation or change in people that she's around. That's a good place to start - ask her what's new in her life and really listen with connection, love, and support. Symptoms could aslo be a sign of trauma or abuse, or they could be due to a developing medical condition. I'd first try talking to her in a way that is safe and comfortable for her - see if it's something she just needs time to adjust and become familiar. If that doesn't yeild much, I'd take her to a pediatrician that can spend a little time with her and talk to that doctor about what's going on. Don't settle for a medical brush off, btw. You or her parents need to be her advocate.
she's probably nervous about some thing she may have a bully at school
Stacia, has a very informative answer for you.

I just want to add one word to her response ';Sexual'; abuse

A Friend of mine has a daughter that was 7 yrs old and she started wetting the bed. Mom didn't realize why until she had a long talk with her daughter, she had been raped. It's very hard for children at that age, the poor little girl felt she had to keep it a secret.
sounds like stress. or anger. idk

Does anyone elses dog have long nail beds/cuticles?

My spitz/mix has very long nail beds/cuticles. Even after I take her to get her nails clipped they are still long. I am wonder if this is common in spitzs breeds.Does anyone elses dog have long nail beds/cuticles?
This happens when the dogs nails get long for a long period of time, their 'quick' grows out. And sometimes the dog just has a long quick naturally. To try to reduce the size, so they can get cut shorter, clip your dogs nails every 2 weeks, even if they don't look like they need clipped, just clip the very tips off so the quick can shorten. It is a slow process, but it does help a little. I hope this is what you were asking.Does anyone elses dog have long nail beds/cuticles?
yes and he is just a year and a half
I was wondering the same. I have a 4 yr old Pit Bull with the same issue. I clip her nails myself, just the white part. But the pink parts are still really long. I don't want to cut any further, that would really hurt her. I'm looking forward to the answers too.
You should get them clipped more often. If you slowly clip back closer and closer to the living portion of the nail, it will receed back. I work in a vet and see long cuticles/nailbeds in all sorts of breeds. I have not noticed a trend in breeds or types of dogs.
This can be a very common problem in all breeds. There are only 2 ways to get the nails shorter. The first way (and most recommended) is to have her nails trimmed as short as possible every 2 weeks. When they trim the nails ask them to trim them as short as possible. Over time this will slowly drive the ';quick'; back so the nails will be able to be trimmed shorter each time. It may also be helpful to file the nails a little (if she will let you) between trimmings to help the process along. Keep in mind that dogs have nail quicks just like people and if the nail is trimmed too short it will bleed. This is why the nails are still long even after they have been trimmed. As you are working with your groomer/vet through this process the nail may be cut too short a couple of times, causing the nail to bleed some. They will stop the bleeding with a powder made just for this purpose, and your dog will be fine.

The second option for getting the nails short is common in show dogs, but more costly. The pet is sedated or placed under anesthesia and the nails are ground back with a dremel-like tool. This can be much more painful for the dog, but allows for an immediate result. If you opt for this option, the quicks will be shorter after a couple of weeks, and with regular trimming (every 2-4 weeks) the nails should stay short and you shouldn't have to repeat the procedure.

These are the 2 options I am most familiar with. I have personally used the first option (my dog's nails were really long when I rescued her) and after about 3 months the nails were at a reasonable length. After that, it just becomes a matter of nail maintenance. I trim my dogs nails every 2-4 weeks (depending on my schedule) and they remain a reasonable length.

You can try the first method at home, if your dog will let you. If the nail bleeds, simply press flour or cornstarch into the quick until the bleeding stops (30-60 seconds). Note that if you do cut the quick it can be uncomfortable for the dog and she may wimper or whine.

Your vet can give you further advice on what may be the best solution for your particular situation since he/she knows your pet better than I.

Im wondering if it has anything to do with my body secreting something like sweat or whatever.I just went to bed with clean nails and when i woke up, my left hand had dirty nails. How could this happen?
You would be surprised how minute bed fluff and dead skin around the fingers can congeal to cause the problem, usually by sweat, I wouldn't worry unduly.I just went to bed with clean nails and when i woke up, my left hand had dirty nails. How could this happen?
Is it possible that you scratched your body somewhere in your sleep and you didn't shower off before bed, or if you did, not the best shower job ever, and you have dead skin and some dirt there now?
you might be scratching your head or legs at night without knowing it. or your sheets are dirty. its probably nothing serious.

How do you get nail polish out of a bed comforter?

First off, I would find it hard to believe that your bed comforter is made from suede. Are you sure it isn't just microfiber ';faux suede';. Look on the label for fabric content. I have really never in my life seen a real suede comforter.

Do not ';bleach'; it as some people say here. Bleach has no power to remove nail polish. It will just ruin anything and everything you put it on.

Without any real knowledge of the fabric, I cannot suggest a method other than the dry cleaners (a professional one). They would know the best methods to successfully removing the stain. How do you get nail polish out of a bed comforter?
If the comforter is white, then bleach it. If it isn't, use nail polish remover on it. Poor a little over the stain and keep blotting. Then soak it in a spray and wash or do laundry detergent and hot water. This is what worked for me.

Why can an indian fakir lie on a bed of nails without injuring himself?

It takes pressure to pierce the skin. Pressure = pounds of force per square inch. If you take one nail and push it into someone, it pierces the skin rather easily, because all the force is concentrated in the small area of the nail point. If you take the same amount of force and try to push 100 nails into someone, the force is distributed among all the nails, so each nail exerts a small amount of pressure. Hence, no piercing. Why can an indian fakir lie on a bed of nails without injuring himself?
If you went out on thin ice standing up in one spot, you would much more easily fall through as opposed to lying flat on the ice, thereby spreading your weight over a greater surface area. Same principle. If the fakir was lying on one nail, he'd be nailed. But hundreds of nails: not a problem. YOU could do it!

  • My nail beds are horrific; help for nails after removal of acrylic ones?

It has been four months since the removal of the acrylic nails, and my nails still look awful. They are thin and break as soon as they grow.My nail beds are horrific; help for nails after removal of acrylic ones?
There are a few products out there that can help you out. First, if you have weak nails, i would suggest fabric nails instead of acrylic. Fabric nails are flexible and are light weight and are good for nails that are thin and weak. You can wear them natural or polished if you want. OPI makes a line of nails strengtheners called Nail Envy it works just like a top coat, but it also strengthens your nails and help them grow. I would suggest using a nail strengthener for about a month or so to give you nails some time to repair, then you can start getting artificial nails again. Hope everthing turns out ok.

It will take about six months. Nail ridges can also indicate dehydration during the growth process. Make sure you're drinking enough water and keep conditioning the cuticles. If you're pushing them back, do so gently as to not cause further damage.I have damaged nail beds. How long will it take for them to grow out?
i dont know if it relates but my toe nail fell off a few years ago and it took about 6 months to fully grow back, normally, but at the same time i had tips on my nails like 2 months ago and i still have glue on my nails and they're only about half way grown out, i dont really know exactly what to tell you, but it might take a while, i wouldnt worry too much
i damaged my nail beds from wearing artificial nails it took at least 6months for it to grow out completely from the where the cuticle is so unfortunatley its gonna be a while.

if this is happening it would be a good idea to take him to an emergency room near you. it means that he is not getting enough oxygen in his blood. i would not wait to see the doctor tomorrow they will be able to help him now.Is cyanosis, blue nail beds, an emergency with asthma?
Take him to the ER now. Cyanosis is a sign of low oxygen. He needs to be in alot of respiratory distress to have acute cyanosis. He probably needs oxygen and if it is bad enough eithe a ventilator or bipap to support his breathing and allow his body to rest.
If he is having acute symptoms, then yes, it's an emergency. Time to go to the ER if he's not getting enough oxygen.

Why do nail beds have a blood flow?

I cut my toenail too short and it bled.. I always believed nailbeds were just skin with a nail growing over it.Why do nail beds have a blood flow?
nail beds are where the cells of the nail originate. Eventually the newer cells push out the older cells (that consist the longer portions of your nail) These older cells die and therefore do not need nourishment. However, the new cells that are generating in the nail bed do need mourishment, and that comes from the blood supply

What cleaner can I use ? Mother in law bad case off nail fungus stayed 3 months. With what can I clean the room and bed?
The vast majority of fungal nail infections would not be easily transmittable to another person without frequent direct contact. Washing the bed linens with a normal detergent should suffice. If you want to take an extra step be sure to wipe down the surfaces with a disinfectant. You shouldn't have a problem. Mother in law bad case off nail fungus stayed 3 months. With what can I clean the room and bed?
Ergh! You're in a bit of a pickle!

I'm not aware of any antifungal agents per se that you could use but I would wash all bedding with a bit of bleach added. The bleach should deal with any fungus left behind.

If you're worried about the walls (fungal spores can spread but, unless it's damp and moist where you live, the chances are it wouldn't be an issue), add some bleach to some sugar soap or other such wall cleaner and wipe them down.

    This will clear infection totally

Preferably, if you can afford, throw away the bed cover, pillow cover, used by her.

It is not clear how she got this infection.

    Exposed bed nail!?

I just tried yanking off the part of acrylic nails that was stuck to my natural nails, and I accidentaly yanked off my real nail and now my nail bed is exposed! My fake and natural nail is still attached from the side, so it still kinda covers the exposed area...

How do I make my nail grow faster, and what measures can I take not to get the exposed part infected?Exposed bed nail!?
Use neosporin and a BIG bandaid that keeps dirt out and go to your doctor because it might get worse the nail might not grow really fast but it will help to fight infection. Sorry to hear about that but I hope this works for you it really sucks to have your nail off.

BY THE WAY DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT SOAK YOUR HAND OR HAIR IN GASOLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Exposed bed nail!?
soak you hand in gasoline wash your hair in gasoline makes it grow faster
    OUCH! Don't do that.

You are going to have to get rid of that 'attached' nail - it will just add germs.Cut or clip it very carefully.

Keep the area covered with antibiotic ointment like Neosporin and a dry bandage. Inspect it carefully every day

for redness or drainage. [if this happens, see a doctor.]

After there is no more 'raw' area, stop the ointment and use a bandage until the finger is comfortable without it.

Every time I get cold, my nail beds and the tips of my fingers turn purple/blue. What does this mean?

    My Niece Has This....

Some five to ten percent of Americans — particularly women — are affected by Raynaud’s (“Ray Nodes”) phenomenon. It can deprive the fingers and toes of blood — and sometimes the nose, lips and ear lobes as well. When they get cold, all these parts can become numb and the skin can turn white or even blue. Raynaud’s can lead to more serious health problems like skin ulcers and gangrene.

When people with Raynaud’s are exposed to the cold, the small blood vessels in their fingers or toes go into spasmodic contractions to preserve heat. Sometimes the arteries that feed the skin collapse and blood flow to their extremities is greatly reduced. Once they warm their fingers or toes, blood flow increases, causing the skin to turn red and feeling returns. Episodes can last anywhere from a minute to several hours.

Stress may also play a role in Raynaud’s. During stressful conditions the body releases chemicals that can trigger symptoms typically seen in the disorder. In most people, doctors don’t know the underlying cause of Raynaud’s phenomenon. However, people with certain connective tissue diseases like lupus or Sjögren’s syndrome, or conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disease, or peripheral vascular disease may be more at risk.

    Attacks Can Come Often

The frequency of Raynaud’s attacks varies from patient to patient. “Some folks get them as often as daily or several times a week,” explains Gregory Dennis, M.D., a rheumatologist and Director of Clinical Programs and Training with NIH’s National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS).

The period of exposure to the cold is extremely critical. “It only takes about 20 to 30 minutes of exposure to the cold to cause potentially serious problems, such as tissue damage,” Dr. Dennis says. “This can lead to ulcers on the fingertips and left untreated, even gangrene.” Bone damage may also ensue, he says.

    A Word to the Wise...

    Preventing Raynaud’s attacks

Keep warm — avoid chilling the extremities as well as the rest of the body.

Always wear gloves and thick socks when you go outside during cold weather. You may want to purchase special gloves and socks that have battery-powered warmers inside them.

Wear a hat in cold weather that covers your ears, or wear ear muffs.

Don’t smoke. Smoking impairs your circulation. The nicotine in cigarettes can also cause your skin temperature to drop, which could bring on an attack.

Recognize that air conditioning can trigger an episode. Don’t turn it up too high, and bring along something to keep you warm if you are going to be in a highly air-conditioned room for a long time, like in a movie theater.

If you’re sensitive to cold, use insulated drinking glasses and wear gloves before putting your hands inside the freezer compartment at home or at your grocery store.

Control stress. Recognizing and avoiding stressful situations may help control the number of attacks.

Get regular exercise. Exercise is good for circulation and may help prevent attacks. Check with your doctor before you begin exercising.

So are residents of Florida or the typically warmer climates completely safe? Not necessarily. People with Raynaud’s who live in milder climates may have attacks during periods of colder weather. “It doesn’t always take real cold temperatures or long periods of exposure to bring on an attack,” Dr. Dennis notes. Attacks can occur whenever temperatures dip below 60 degrees. For some people, sticking their hand in the frozen section at a grocery store for just a few seconds could be enough to trigger an episode.

If you believe you have Raynaud’s phenomenon, your family doctor should be able to help you; if not, he or she may refer you to a vascular surgeon or a rheumatologist. There are medicines available that can decrease both the frequency and the severity of attacks.

However, there are things you should do in the meantime. Limit your exposure to the cold. Get out of the cold as soon as you feel an attack beginning, if not sooner. If you are in the midst of an attack, Dr. Dennis says, “you may want to whip your arms around in a windmill fashion. Or just make a fist and keep closing and opening it or keep shaking your hands.” These exercises drive blood back through the arteries and can help increase blood flow to your hands.

Once you get inside, run your hands or toes under lukewarm water. Or soak them in a bowl of warm water. Using a heating pad on a medium warm setting for about 15 minutes is also safe and effective. However, don’t put your hands or any part of your body on a radiator or other object that can scald you.

If stress triggers an episode, get out of the stressful situation and relax. Even better, learn to recognize and avoid stressful situations. Biofeedback training or other relaxation management techniques may work to minimize symptoms or lessen attacks.

The bottom line is that both self-help and medical treatments are available for this potentially dangerous condition. Talk to your doctor if you think you may have Raynaud’s phenomenon.— a report from The NIH Word on Health, April 2001

    You Should See Your Doctor!

Good Luck!Every time I get cold, my nail beds and the tips of my fingers turn purple/blue. What does this mean?
During cold weather, the body will try to maintain normal body core temperature for vital organs, so this means that peripheral circulation to fingers and toes may be diminished, so that they appear blue. This happens to everyone to varying degrees.

It could be Reynard's syndrome (Not sure about the spelling), where circulation is severely restricted. Also look up carpal tunnel syndrome, where the bone passage for blood vessels to the hands is restricted. This can be fixed surgically.Every time I get cold, my nail beds and the tips of my fingers turn purple/blue. What does this mean?
It sounds like poor circulation. Please see your physician as soon as possible.
    your cold
could mean you're anemic..or have low iron levels
How cold do you have to get. If it happens when you are REAL cold, it is probably normal. Are you an adult smoker? If so, and it happens with mind coldness, like in the freezer section of the grocery store, it could be Buerger's Disease.
when your cold your body pulls blood from your extremeties to warm up your core. You can live w/o toes and fingers but you can't live w/o internal organs. Kinda an exteme answer but thats what happens
    Bad blood circulation
    It means you are cold.

When you get cold, your body cuts down the circulation to the extremities to prevent heat loss. When there is less circulation, the oxygen in your blood gets used up before it gets to the end, like your fingertips. So it looks blue instead of pink.

There is a condition called Raynaud's phenomenon in which the fingers turn white, then blue. When they are warmed, they tend to turn red. I have given you a link to an article on Raynaud's.
It means you have bad circulation.
