BLUE FINGERNAIL BEDS? My son is 6, his nails are blue, lack of oxygen? Im concerned. Any ideas why?

He feels fine, earlier said he had a stomachache, but playing %26amp; fine. A little background, he has had asthma since 2, many daily meds, BUT in December all meds were taken away, crazy he has been fine ever since. More than fine. No episodes, attacks, healthy. laways in the back of my mind, will it come back. He has his bad month(October) so I am awaiting that. Dr. says take it day at a time, if it comes back, will treat again. Anyways





TODAYS PROBLEM: his nails are blue, i right away think hes not breathing well. I call Dr. immediately, the nurse is not concerned. She says with no other symptoms could be many htings, even a virus--(i never heard of a virus making blue fingernails) So nurse says monitor him, any other symptoms, they are there 7 days a week. SO what do you think? I am concerned, pediatric nurse not, 1 neighbor says looks strange, no blue lips, eyes, fine, no labored breathing. Thanks for everyhting! Nearly a week later, all blue gone. LAsted for several days, 1/2 nail bed, to 1/4 nail bed, to just thumb %26amp; pinky blue, past 2 days, no blue at all. Still no answer to what caused it. Still a little concernned in the back of my head. SO ill be watching.

Blue fingernail beds is usually a sign of a lack of oxygen. I would absolutely get a second opinion. It doesn't sound emergent, but why wait??
It could be something else such as anemia. You should schedule a doctor appointment.
BRING him to a doctor and have them look at his fingers - sounds odd to me. Bring him in right away.

If you have cheap nails that were made with cheap acrylic products, then yes, they will yellow easily. But, top of the line acrylic products do not yellow like the cheap stuff does. You may want to go to a different salon - one that uses good products.


BTW, there is no difference between the pink %26amp; white, and what you call 'regular' acrylic. They are the same thing, just a different color. Good quality acrylics come in many different colors, and will withstand the UV lights and not become yellowed.

I had my big toe nails removed at 12 by the beds wich means I have rough, dry, ugly looking skin there?

and at the time didn't bother me for a few years. I'm 24 this year and there is nothing worse than having awful toes in sandles. Given that nail varnish soaks in, have you thought of using a bright red acrylic (artist's) paint on the nail beds, and helping it to dry with a hair dryer? Maybe after that, cover the dry acrylic paint with a clear nail varnish to make it all durable.

that happens sometimes with a natural nail-sounds like your nails are pretty strong as they survived but the trousers didnt

So before you start lecturing me about how bad tanning is for you, I KNOW. It's not something i do regularly.








Annnyway, recently I got french tips and a few days later i got in a tanning bed, and came out with my nails slightly yellowed. Just incase I bought nail-savers for next time. But my question is..





When i go to get a fill-in for my nails, will they be able to fix the yellow-ness or do i just have to get a new set?

I don't tan, but my acrylic nails turn yellow sometimes to, especially when I wash dishes a lot. You'll have to get a whole new set, because you don't want to start a fungus or an infection.

Should I use ';No More Nails'; to fix my bed frame?

I tried to assemble my wood bed and I was tightening the bolt and nut on one side, but tightened so much that the inner side of the wood snapped. Now the bolt and nut is useless.





It has two slots with bolt hole inbetween like most bed frames





If I used glue on the slots and the 2 pieces of wood that goes into the slots would it hold a mattress and 2 people???





Its quite difficult to nail and I dont want to ruin the bed further

no more nails is good stuff, but will only work on an unvarnished surface, at least one of the surfaced has to be porous or it will just harden in the gap, and stick to neither side.


I would recommend putting in a strut to suppor the head of the bed. Simply attach a lat of sturdy wood along a good length of the headboard's bottom. ( ie along the piece that the bolt would have gone into) and then nail that to the leg.

What you want to do is use a tad of no more nails and a few small screwws just to hold it. I wouldnt hold hope in no more nails on its own to be honest.
Honey glue is half of the solution . For this to work for any length of time you will need to strap the joint . nylon pallet binding and a LARGE stapler or nails .

I need more info. Contact me or give more of a description and I'll try to give more input on how to handle this then. It really is best to have them checked by a podiatrist but you can have a guess or clue of what is going on with more description of how they don't look good. IF You prefer, contact me and let me know in email on here and I can get more of an idea of what type of nail problem and the cause.It doesn't sound like ingrown nails by what you put, as my daughter had those and they weren't like what you list here.
It sounds like you may have gotten a nail fungus. I would see a doctor to get a diagnosis. Nail fungus left untreated can spread to your other nails

This will prevent you from giving the situation the best response you can give. This will lead to them winning over you.





The main thing I suggest is that you let go of everything you hold which is related to them. Let go of memories, feelings and all the other things. As time passes you will forget that they were even friends of yours.


Do not let issues with friends upset your studies. Work well academically and in extra-curricular activities. Then everyone will feel jealous and in time who knows you might have a cooler group of TRUE friends to hang out with.

Yes, they used to sell some covers for the tips of fingers for this problem. I don't know if they still do but maybe you should put something over them. I know you don't want lines on your hands but what comes to my mind is putting band aids on them if you can't find those covers.

I have a question. In a bed of nails demo (where a guy lies on his back on a bed of nails and a guy smashes a cinder block and the guy appears unharm), if you use a smaller brick would it be more dangerous or less?Bed of Nails question?
It is a question of momentum. The smaller block would move more sharply, and therefore impart more force to the person below.





We know that Force = mass x acceleration.





Since the force of the hammer blow would be more or less constant, the larger block would presumably have a larger mass, and so it would accelerate more slowly; that is, it would move less. Since it moved less, it would impart less force.





And, as another respondent said, the larger block would also impart that force over a larger area, so the force per square inch or cm would be less for the larger block, too.Bed of Nails question?
This ';trick'; works on the following principles: the body weight is evenly divided between all the contact points (the nails). Say a person is 200 lb on a 200 nail bed, then there is only 1 lb applied to any given nail. The end of a nail is actually rounded and the pressure on the skin applied by the tip of the nail is below the force needed to puncture the skin. The trick would not work if there were 5 nails or if each nail was filed to a needle point.





Now to your question: when someone breaks a cinder block on the person's stomach (who thinks of those things?), the force is increased. It's as if the person was temporarily heavier. The heavier the block or the higher the block speed, the higher the force. Replace the cinder block by a car and you get the idea! If you apply enough force, the person will be very sorry he agreed to lay down on the nail bed.





A smaller brick of equal weight would not alter the basic premises: the pressure on a given nail would increase negligibly.






definitely smaller brick will be more dangerous. it wudnt have effected much if the body had been a rigid structure, that wud have helped to spread the blow equally in all parts of the body. but human body is elastic. the moment the happer hits the brick the brick will equally spread the blow on the body, but the body wud not do so, the area under the brick will instantly move down on nails before it is spread to whole body leading to an eventful evining

The only thing that matters in this case is the number of nails in the bed. The size of the block shouldn't matter at all.

I have acrylic nails...tanning bed turns them yellow?

I have heard before that the tanning bed will turn my nails yellow, but it never has until now. I do use a bronzer, but after I put it on, I use a wet wipe back over my nails and hands, so they won't be yellow, but they're still turning and it looks pretty gross. Well as a manicurist, I am very familiar with this problem. I work at a high profile salon in L.A. and am responsible for hundreds of manicured hands and am also familiar with the tanning aspect seeing that we have a popular tanning booth in our own salon. My suggestions are to:


-Try using a ';UV Topcoat.'; Putting a layer of this gel on your nails will allow for ultimate protection and prevent the yellow color from reappearing. At my salon, we sell the IBD UV Topcoat. I would highly recommned it


-Wear “Nail Savers” to prevent your Acrylic Nails/French Manicures from turning yellow. These offer 100% UV protection for manicures. They are reusable and ready to wear right out of the bag. These are also sold at my salon and are super popular among my clients


-Consuming more calicum in your diet can also help keep nail color white but for best results try UV Topcoat or Nail Savers

All you need to do is let the technician know you go tanning. They will put a UV protectant clear coat on so that your nails do not yellow :)
cut the fingers off of an old pair of gloves, just enough to cover the tips of your fingers, or use band aids.

I actually just did this experiment at a local museum recently. Your weight is equally distributed over the ';bed of nails'; so that you don't give an individual nail more than the 2 lbs. (or a bit more depending on the clothing one is wearing) necessary that it takes a nail to pierce your skin.

The purpose of the experiment is to demonstrate ';Distribution of Pressure'; or the physics of pressure; and the difference between pressure and force.


In this experiment, force is the weight of the mass pushing down on the nails. Pressure is of course, the force per unit area.





One can lie on the nail bed safely, because the weight is distributed over the entire nail bed. The pressure on each point is fairly small. You can even do calculations and impress your teacher.
The nails need a certain amount of pressure to puncture the skin, and when the nails are close enough together, they more evenly distribute the weight. So, with the distribution of weight present there can be no puncture wounds and little discomfort, given decent spacing.
I think that's when you put an object (maybe a body) over a large quantity of nails and it remains on top without injury because the weight is dispersed, however, if you u put this same object on 1 or a few nails, harm can be done.

if you were to sit in one nail it would go into you because your weigth is placed on a small surface area (eg if i weighed 100kg and u sat on a nail the nail would poke you with a force of 100000kg/cm^2 (assuming the area of the tip of a nail is 0.1mm^2)





now with a bed of nails which contain 100000 nails the presure would be 0.1 kg/cm^2 (once again assuming the area of the tip of a nail is 0.1mm^2) this is very little thus you dont get hurt as a force like this wont penatrate the skin.

well there is another solution. maybe you can just try a self tanner.


its safer, more afordable, and effective.


if you decide to use a self tanner you can easily just put gloves over your hand to prevent stains.





if you want to continue using the tanning bed, then id suggest going to take them off or getting them re-polished again.

Okay, I think my headache has recovered enough to answer this. First, have you ever slept on a bed of nails, sharp or dull? Second why in the hell would you ever crawl on a bed of nails, what are you looking for, and did you really need it? I'm sorry, I have asked more questions than answers. So I'm assuming this is a metaphor for marriage with a somewhat of a anger issues. Then as you know, we all have been in this bed and it is not comfortable. So to easy the pain we do what is necessary to make the bed as comfortable as possible, and that some times entails swallowing our pride and saying I'm sorry, even though we were not at fault. Nails don't really matter; and definitely aren't the number one rule. U can be in bed together with fake nails, and they are quite long, it doesnt make any difference what so ever.

As others have said, buy a sheet of plywood and a couple of pounds of 16-penny nails. A chalk line would help too. It is a reel of string enclosed in a box. You fill the box with chalk. Then you roll the string out (It has a hook on one end), hold the other end taut, and snap the string. It leaves a straight line of chalk on the wood. Your hardware store clerk will show you how it works. It is simpler to show than to describe with words. It is 10 times faster than a pencil and yardstick.





Make a chalk line every inch or 3/4th of an inch along your plywood the long way, then again the short way. Lay your plywood on a bed of sand and drive your nails in at the intersections. I have been using splenda for 2 months, I have ridges and redstripes on my nail beds what is that?

Like i said i use splenda lost alot of weight which is great for me and when i use regular sugar i get very sick, so i tried Stevia got very ill with that and the equal is bad with the headaches and sweet n low is also bad for me i thought of trying Splenda but recently found out that they kill ants using this why put it on the market if its killing everyone. your weight loss is more likely to be why your nails have ridges rather then the splenda. If your loosing weight its really a good idea to try make sure you eat decent foods and get the full range of vitamins in your diet.





If your lacking in vitamins, like B vitamins or not getting enough essentail fats in your diet, things like nail, hair and skin can suffer.





I would take a look at the splenda your using, if your having toio much per day, like over 5 tea spoons of the stuff, (see the packet for serving sizes) then maybe work on cutting back, just have it now and then, it will feel hard to cut back, but persevere and it will get easier.

Been having issues with a very high heart rate, along with chest pains, among other things because of a new medication. I'm getting off of the medication in about a week (working down doses).





However I've been having a lot chills lately. It takes a hoodie, two blakets, and a furnace of a husband to stop my violent shaking and yet I'm still cold. And last night I was freezing and hot at the same time, sweating and shaking at the same time. I've been cold all the time, and now my nail beds are purple with a hint of blue. Kate, go to another GP and tell him or her all your symptoms. The purple nail beds could be an infection. If they find nothing wrong with you physically, then you might be suffering from a psyhological anxiety disorder. I've personally had it for years and initially the docs couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. They referred me to a psyhiatrist who prescribed me meds which cured me completely. Symptoms you need to look out for include palpitations (heart racing), hot or cold flushes,shortness of breath, clammy hands, general feeling of being unwell, nausea, etc. Its possibly stress-related so speak to a psychologist who will help by talking things out and teaching you breathing exercises, etc. The psychiatrist before that, though, since meds may be required before a shrink can be of much help. i have the same problem with my toes they are very ugly but i try not to worry about it and when someone comments on them i get really embarrassed and upset but when i wear like a navy blue or a green like jade color they are usually not commented on. good luck:)

ok so my nail beds aren't great i used to bite my finger nails really bad when i was younger(to the point they would bleed). i've been keeping them healthy for years now, letting them grow to a certain length and then keeping them that way, not polishing them too much, etc. well the part where your nail shows up white on the tips is weird. most people's are shaped kind of crescent like and mine used to be but now the part where the white tip meets the pink of my nail beds shows up kind of wavey...i don't know if that makes sense, but they've been this way for a while no infections or anything like that my nails just won't attach back to the bed. is there anything i can do to make them attach? i've been growing them out and just keeping them trimmed(kind of short to medium length so there's still white showing), but they still haven't reattached and it's been over a year, more than that since i stopped biting them. is there anything i an do or put on them to make them reattach? and salons and doctors really aren't an option for me at the moment(dad just lost his job) so preferably something i can get from a drugstore or whatever. sorry this is so long thanks in advance for any help :)Some help with my nails and nail beds please?

hello miss, you can't make them square, they are oval, no matter what shape nails we have. messing with the cuticle could damage the nail bed and you don't want that to happen. you can get an infection, nail loss, nail ridges.. it's just not worth it to try to change something that's is how it was meant to be in the first place and for always. i hope this helped! :)How to i make my nail beds square like my nails tip?

you can push back the cuticle, but that's not really reccommended because the cuticle is there to protect your nail bed.

Damaged Nail beds?

When I was little, I chewed on my 2 big toe nails (weird, yeah I know). My parents tried everything to stop me, vinegar, lemon, that special stuff that makes it taste bad - but i still got to them





The nail never grew properly again. We went to see a nail specialist who said he would remove it. Almost 3 and a half years later - he hasn't. I havent gone back to see him - and by now i've removed the nail myself everytime it grew back (litterally, had it ripped out).





Now, it doesnt look bad really, just like a hard skin cover - but there is a little bit of.. ';nail'; or weak nail growing, but I dont know if it will grow back normally anymore.





On the other nail - it's growing back, not fully yet - but it definately iy.Damaged Nail beds?
Usually people who have their nails chipped off, grow it back in around 3 months because there is still a little bit of nail on the nail bed, and that is what causes it to grow back. However, if there is no nail left on the nail bed, then it probably won't grow back.





What I learned is that you soak your nails in salty warm water, and then you put a bandage on it so that you won't keep on picking it off. But since this has been a habit of yours, I don't know if it will actually grow back, but this is just to prevent infection.





If you want, you can use an artificial nail.


Good to hear your other nail is growing back, don't touch the other one! It might grow back, not normally, but let it grow back the best it can. Atleast you didn't lose an arm, or a leg, or you're blind!

Can nail beds reattach to the nail?

Recently I've noticed my nail beds (the pink part) are receding from the nail plate (the white part). My nail beds keep gradually getting shorter it seems.





This has mostly been caused by damages to the nail bed. A specific example would be me trying to pick up a textbook in one hand, but because I wasn't paying attention my finger came into contact with it in a such a way that my nail bent back. (I have long nails) Another example would be trying to pick up a card and having the corner of it jam under your nail. Sometimes however it seems like I haven't done anything, but I'll notice a piece of my nail bed has receded.





My nailbeds are now uneven and wavy in some of my nails. What I basically want to know is if there's a way for me to make my nail beds longer again. Do they naturally reattach sometimes or are they just going to get shorter my whole life?Can nail beds reattach to the nail?
The nails should reattach to the nail bed as they grow. If the nails worsen or do not improve over a period of time then you should see a doctor.

probably a lack of calcium in your diet. drink more milk or take calcium supplements and see if that works. If it doesn't, I have no idea

Maybe it's a skin infection. Some natural occuring bacteria (eg. Staphylococcus Aureus, Staphylococcus Epidermidis or Streptococcus Pyogenes) which normally live on the skin, might sometimes turn pathogenic. The long nails may also shelter them. You should better see a doc and have some tests.

I am not a doctor nor a nurse, but I do know that the coloring you are having on your nails is not a good sign. I think it could have something to do with your oxygen level. I would go to the ER like right now. I wouldn't wait. Especially since you have been sick for three weeks.

i wanted to go the tanning bed but my mom is making me go to the tanning beds at a nail place because its less expensive.

OMG! Yes, they are different. Just as people mentioned, lamp life is important. The nail salon has added tanning as an extra service. It is not their main objective. Are they even certified tanning salon operators? It begs the question: how often do they change their lamps? Do let 1 burn out at a time and replace as needed? Do they replace all of them at once at a certain time? Are they keeping that place clean? Is the electrical proper, which will vary the tan? Do they take the lamps out and clean off the dust?





A professional tanning salon will run the place properly.





It's kind of like an SPF company like Hawaiian Tropic dabbling in indoor tanning lotion. They don't know anything. Australian Gold, Designer Skin, etc -- these are professional tanning lotion manufacturers, they know what they are doing because it is their specialty.

Itchy nail beds? acyrylic nails?

i have been getting false nails for ten plus years, for the most of the time i have only gone to one salon, but i started getting itchy nail beds, about ten hours after thy had been applied. the itchiness last 5-7 days. my nails are wrecked underneth therefore i would like to continue with my false nails but the itchiness is really bad ans nothing helps. any ideas??????? many thanksItchy nail beds? acyrylic nails?
I would give your nails a break, get the nails off and save some money. If they are wrecked now keeping them on longer will only cause more damage.Itchy nail beds? acyrylic nails?
It sounds like you're having an allergic reaction to them. When you get them done, do they use an electric drill on your natural nails? Cause that thins out your nails. Then your nail bed starts to absorb the liquid from the acrylic, causing you to become over exposed to the chemicals.





I'd get them removed asap and give them a rest for a few months. Then try them out again. If the same thing happens, then you'll know for sure that you're allergic.





If you want to keep having fake nails, go with silk wraps!

Well I am a professional beaty stylist and I do nails and tons of other stuff.I am wearing french tips right now that are fake.I've been wearing them for about 2 weeks now and sometimes when you go to bed if you move around a lot,they might fall off.But if you bought them at the store and put them on,then it's totally ok to just glue them back on.But if they are professionally done then you might need to go back to where ever you got them done and ask them to redo them or glue one back on.But yes it's totally ok to wear them to bed!!!

Yes. The only real danger I can think of when wearing false nails is handling a wet cloth or towel, all the water makes them heavy and can break your nails.

I can't exactly remember or spell the name of the syndrome...I think it's called Raynauds Syndrome. I have it also. Go to WebMD.com for more info or see a DR. I don't think it is serious if it is that syndrome, but see a Dr. incase it is poor circulation.
