I am unable to bend my Right thumb at the joint just below th end of the nail bed. I can somewhat bend it if I manual do it but with pain. Any ideas what it is?Any orthopedic Dr's? I am unable to bend my Right thumb at the joint just below th end of the nail bed.?
You have what is a called a trigger finger (or thumb in your case) aka stenosing tenosynovitis

Trigger finger/thumb occurs when the pulley at the base of the finger becomes too thick and constricting around the tendon, making it hard for the tendon to move freely through the pulley. Sometimes the tendon develops a nodule (knot) or swelling of its lining. Because of the increased resistance to the gliding of the tendon through the pulley, one may feel pain, popping, or a catching feeling in the finger or thumb

My surgeon treats this condition with a minor surgical procedure called an A1 pulley release. Some treat the condition with a CORTISONE injection but from my understanding that is very painful!Any orthopedic Dr's? I am unable to bend my Right thumb at the joint just below th end of the nail bed.?
I'm not a doctor, but i know of several possibilities: the tendon can slip out of place (avulsion), it can rupture, and knots can develop in the tendon an prevent it from sliding. Inflammation in the joint and cartilage damage can also cause this problem.
